Chrysler’s on the Murray
It has been a long time coming with Jason Chapman asking me for about 6 years to make a run down to Albury/Wadonga and this year we were finally able to make it.
Leaving home on Thursday morning for a great cruise with Leisa and Nigel Keats to as far as Sydney on the first day in Leisa’s Matador X and Lesley’s Javelin (yes the girls got to take their cars for the run), we made it to Kay and Len Pendelbury’s private museum in western Sydney just in time for dinner. There was a great group of old friends and family waiting there for us to arrive to catch up and share stories with.
Most of the Thursday night crowd were going to be meeting us Friday morning and cruising the rest of the way into Albury. So with everyone (8 cars) arriving at the Service station south of Sydney, we fuelled up and headed off to meet the crew in Albury. Now of course we had to have a little fun along the way with the changing of the leader from time to time and at one stage Lesley and I raced ahead to pull over and video the whole group (except our car) just cruising along the motorway one after the other. It sure was great to see the precession of AMC cars doing what they do best... Cruising along with happy smiling faces inside every one of them.
Saturday morning came and what a day it was. Meeting so many people I have spoken to over the years but never met until then and many more new friends were made over the weekend.
The Chrysler Club who hosted the event of Chryslers on the Murray did a fantastic job and they were very accommodating of us AMC Rambler people. Making special mention of all of us and all the work that Jason had done for the event over the past year and previous years. We had a great catch up and dinner on the Saturday night with all the Rambler people. So many new friendships formed and lots of stories told. I would like to thank Dianne Wilson for organising this dinner at such short notice, she did a fantastic job.
With the event coming to a close on Sunday afternoon it was time to pack up and head back to the accommodation for one more night before our big drive home. Some decided to leave on the Sunday so we were down to 4 cars cruising back through to Sydney where 2 of them turned off and Leisa, Nigel and ourselves continue on a bit longer to Port Maquarie for the night. We arrived home on Tuesday afternoon after a near faultless trip, just one tyre on a Jeep and two separate water pumps on 2 Javelins including ours but it was a fantastic weekend that we will be doing again.
I would really like to thank Jason Chapman for all his efforts in finally getting us down to the Chrysler’s on the Murray event and all I can say is that we will be back and I will be looking for a lot more people to be cruising down with us from Queensland.
The next one we will be attending in a car will be in 2020 for the 50 years of Hornet and Gremlin and we are already looking forward to this future event.
